Headlice-Latest Information

Headlice have been around for thousands of years and when hatched are transparent. The first thing they do is drink blood and they darken as the blood is digested. They crawl needing heat from the head, behind the ears and back of neck are hotspots. They lay six or seven eggs a night and the glue it uses to stick eggs to hair is incredibly strong.

They transfer by head to head contact. Once off the head they will only live for 24 hours.

Suggested treatment:-

  • It is essential to check hair regularly.
  • Wash and  condition hair and comb very carefully with a nit comb available from any chemist.
  • The treatments available are alcohol or water based.
  • The shampoos and mousses are not very effective.
  • It is vital that treatment is repeated after 7 days to obtain best results.
  • Keep using the nit comb for 14 days.
  • The "nit" is the empty case the louse is the problem.
