Responsible use of the school computers, the Internet and Communication Technology

The school has installed computers with internet access to help our learning. These rules will keep us safe and help us to be fair to others. Please read the rules carefully together with your parent/guardian(s) before you both sign them to show that you have agreed to them. If you do not sign them, you will not be allowed to use the computers in school.

  • I have a responsibility to use the computers carefully and thoughtfully so that they are in a fit state to be used by the next person
  • I will not change or create any passwords or login procedures on the computers.
  • I will not install or delete any software on the school computers
  • I will not bring in floppy discs, CDROMs or memory sticks from outside school unless I have been given permission to use them.
  • I will not access or change other people's work files.
  • I will only use the school computers for school work or homework
  • I will ask permission from a member of staff before accessing the internet.
  • I will only email people my teacher has approved
  • The messages I send will be polite and responsible.
  • I will not use chat-rooms, msn or any other instant messaging service
  • I will never give my, or any other person's, home address, telephone number, email address or photograph to anyone I contact via the computer
  • I will never arrange to meet anyone I contact via the computer
  • School takes great care to prevent me being able to find unpleasant or illegal things on the Internet. However, I understand that because of the way the internet is organised school may not always be able to stop things getting through. If I accidentally come across unpleasant material, images or messages, for whatever reason, I know I must immediately report to it an adult.
  • I understand that school may check my computer files and may also look at computer sites I visit
  • I understand that if I damage equipment maliciously or on purpose, as opposed to accidentally, the damage will be charged for?
  • I recognise that information on the internet is the result of a lot of work by someone I am unlikely ever to meet. If I want to use some in my work, I should never pretend that it is my own and I ought to say where I got it from.
  • I know that I should not use the computers in the library at lunchtime.
  • I should not have a mobile telephone, MP3 player or recorder in school. If I forget or need to bring one for a reason I know it must be left safely in the office.
  • I understand that if I do not follow these rules sanctions will be taken against me which may include being banned from using any of the computers or the internet.
