COLLECTIVE WORSHIP POLICY
The aim of the collective worship policy is to provide the opportunity for pupils to:
o Worship God o Reflect on values that are of a broadly Christian nature and on their own beliefs o Develop a community spirit, a common ethos and shared values o Consider spiritual and moral issues o Respond to the worship offered o Have regular opportunities for stillness and reflection o Develop respect and sensitivity to the beliefs and values of others o Participate and respond o Celebrate special occasions and show appreciation of the gifts and talents of the school community o Engage in the broader curriculum through the use of Art, Music, Story, Drama and other visual and oral means of communication.
Statutory Duty of School
All maintained schools provide daily collective worship for registered pupils (apart from those who have been withdrawn by their parents). This is usually provided within a daily assembly.
The Headteacher is responsible (under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998) for arranging the daily collective worship after consulting with the governing body. Daily collective worship must be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character. The precise nature will depend on the family background, ages and abilities of the pupils.
Implementation
Collective worship, whether in assembly or tutor time, will:
o Be acceptable to the whole community, staff and pupils o Include a variety of elements at different times o Involve the pupils Our acts of worship use a variety of approaches including:- o Story - including bible passages and stories with moral theme o Drama o Music o Art o ICT o Video/DVD o Artefacts
Contribution to wider learning
o Spiritual development o Moral development o Social development o Cultural development
Co-ordinating Worship
We incorporate resources from the SEAL Rainbow Pack to select themes across the school year.
Right of Withdrawal
Parents/Carers do have the right of withdrawal from collective worship. Parents/Carers who have any concerns about the provision and practice of our collective worship or wish to withdraw their child are strongly encouraged to discuss the matter with the Headteacher/Deputy Headteachers/Year Leader.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Review
The school will review this policy annually and assess its implementation and effectiveness. The policy will be promoted and implemented throughout the school.
