YEAR 4 Curriculum Review - Autumn Term 2011
INTRODUCTION

LITERACY
We follow the National Primary Framework. This term our main focus will be to write independently:-

o Explanations
o Poems
o Narrative texts
NUMERACY
We follow the National Primary Framework. This term our main focus will be:-
Place value, Addition, Subtraction, Money, Measures, Shape & Space Number Sequences,
Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Decimals,
Time and Data Handling
SCIENCE
We follow the QCA guidelines. This term our topics will be:-
o Moving and Growing
o Habitats
To reinforce our lerning in school we will be taking the children to Upton House to carry out activities such as pond dipping and bug hunting.
TOPIC
This term our main topic is the Caribbean. We will be learning about food, culture, weather and tourism. We will also be linking our topic with our literacy lessons, through a unit on stories from other cultures.
MUSIC
This year all children will be taught African drumming. This term this will be focusing on basic rhythm and technique.
ART & DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
This will be taught in blocks during the year. Topics covered include food, textiles, journeys and imagery.
PE/GAMES
Indoor Activities - Gym - Travelling and Dance. Outdoor Activities - Invasion games. Swimming lessons will replace the games lesson for each class in turn over the course of the year.
RE
Our focus question in RE this term is "Who was Jesus and why is he important to Christians?"
ICT
We aim to improve the children's computer knowledge and skills this term with work including - using fonts, re-ordering text, editing text, inserting pictures and saving their own work.
PSHE - Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning
A valuable lesson per week to encourage the children to develop good relationships and respecting differences.
HOMEWORK
We currently set 15 minutes of homework per evening.
