Branksome Heath Middle School  Newsletter April 2008

Last term was very successful with all Year Groups having special events to celebrate.

Year 4 - Egyptian Theatre in Education Day gave all children the opportunity to learn about life in Ancient Egypt.

Year 5 - Tudor Theatre in Education Day took all children back into the times of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I

Year 6 - have been working with Year 7 to improve reading.  They have also been working in small groups to prepare for the tests in May.

Year 7 - have had a group working with Montacute School preparing for a performance at the end of term.

Year 6 and the "Cherries"
A group of children spent five Thursday evenings working at the Cherries Learning Centre at Bournemouth Football Club.  They worked in and around the stadium , interviewing players and creating an animated film which has been shown to staff, parents and in assemblies.

Sports Round Up
It has been great to see more and more sport taking place in school with all year groups staying behind
after school to improve their individual skills and team tactics.  We thank all staff for giving up their time to organise these groups whether it has been Football, Hockey, Netball, Tag, full contact Rugby and Indoor Athletics.

We have taken part in many competitions and Sports Awards have been given to every child who has
represented the school on five different occasions.

Royal Albert Hall
We are delighted to have had a group of children
taking part in the Dorset Music Schools' Festival of Music, culminating in a performance at The Royal
Albert Hall during our Easter Holiday.  A fantastic
opportunity for all concerned and many thanks to all staff who have helped organise this event.

Musical Evening
We had a wonderful evening of music on Wednesday
12 March with many children performing in front of their parents.  We had hoped to use our new outside performing arena, but the weather has beaten us this time.

Staffing
We all wish Mrs Robjohns the very best as she leaves to have her baby.  Mrs Tollerfield will be taking Class 5TR full time and Mrs Muir will be taking over on Tuesdays to cover a variety of Year 4 and Year 5 classes.

School Achievements
School has been successful in achieving the Financial Management Standard in Schools and have also been successful in yet again achieving the standards set by the  'Investors in People'.

We are delighted that the hard work of so many staff has been recognised in this way.

Lateness
It is of utmost importance for all children to be in school in good time for 8.40 am registration.  So many children are still arriving late for school, especially on Mondays.

If your child is late 3 times in a week, a letter will be sent home and the Educational Welfare Officer will be informed.

Breakfast Club
Why not try our successful Breakfast Club which is open to Branksome Heath and Sylvan children.  For £2 a day your child can attend from 7.40am until the start of school day.  The club can be used as often or as little as you like.  Some children use it every day and others once or twice a week.

Children are offered hot and cold drinks,
cereals, toast or crumpets with various
toppings or eggs cooked in various ways.  Once the children have eaten there are magazines to read or games to play.  Every activity is supervised.

If you are interested in your child attending, please phone Mrs Simons on 747966.

Charging for Breakages, damage or loss
The governors have reviewed Branksome Heath's Charging Policy which can be seen via the school website:  www.branksomeheath.co.uk
