Branksome Heath News
July 2008
As we come to the end of another year, I would like to start by thanking you all for your support for the children and staff. We have taken part in more musical and sporting events, we have organised more residential and day visits and had more opportunities for visitors to come into school.
Without your support this would not happen and I would like to thank everyone who came to the Summer Fete which, in spite of the rain, was very successful with just over £2500 being raised.
Sports Days
Thanks to Miss Tinsley and Mr Noble for co-ordinating the four sports days this year. It was great to see so many parents and we will arrange refreshments next year! We saw 4 days of close contests and the results are:
Kimmeridge 1st Worbarrow 2nd Brownsea 3rd Lulworth 4th
MUSICAL EVENING
I hope many of you will be able to support our final concert for the year. I would like to thank Miss Kent for bringing back our Musical Evenings after a few years without. We will be starting on Tuesday 8 July at 7pm.
DISCO
We will be having an end of term Disco on Thursday 10 July with Years 4 & 5 having theirs from 1.00—2.15 and Years 6 & 7 from 2.30—3.45pm Thursday will be a non uniform day with 50p contribution. Also refreshments will be on sale. A letter to all Years 6 and 7 children will be sent to gain permission for staying 30 minutes later than usual.
AWARDS EVENING
Every child who has achieved a Bonze, Silver or Gold Award or has 100% attendance will be invited to the evening with Years 4/5 starting at 6pm and Years 6 & 7 starting at 7.30pm.
CYCLING TO SCHOOL
It has been great to see more children cycling to school this term, however, I would ask all parents to ensure that helmets are worn. Safety is always a major concern and we don't want any child to be injured. I would also recommend Cycle training which is organised by one of our parents Mrs Tucker.
DRAMA GROUP
We have been asked to advertise the "Liz Ferne and Curtain Up Productions" Theatre Group. It will be held at Upton Community Centre. Details from Liz Ferne on 01202 311174.
SLEEPOVER
Congratulations to Mrs Beeston and the team of staff who arranged our first ever sleep over in school. An evening of activities, followed by very little sleep was finished with a crazy breakfast of singing and dancing. Well done to all of the children who took part to make it so much fun and raise money for the school.
CRICKET
Everyone in school has had an opportunity to play Cricket this term in Games lessons and we would like to congratulate the girls and Year 5 boys' teams who both qualified for the County Finals at Bryanstone School in Blandford. Both teams had great days out and thanks to Asda, the sponsors of schools Kwik Cricket, all came home with bright new T shirts and certificates.
LOCAL HISTORY
To finish this term, all children will be working on a cross curricular project incorporating many subjects but centred around an aspect of the history of Poole.
PYRAMID CONCERT
We had a fantastic evening appearing on stage at the Lighthouse Theatre in Poole as part of the Rossmore Pyramid Concert. Staff from all of the schools in the pyramid combined to rehearse a very large group of children into the brilliant choir and band that performed. We all look forward to the next time.
Congratulations to Matthew Morris and Molly Craig who are representing Poole in the County Athletics Championship at Kings Park.
YEAR 7
We are all looking forward to the End of Year Show with excerpts from Bugsy Malone. The school will watch during the day on Wednesday 16 July and Year 7 parents will be given tickets for the evening performance at 7pm.
On our last day of term, we will celebrate in St Clements' Church at 11.15am and we will all return to school this year for a final lunch with all staff when the children will be given their Year Book.
HEALTHY SCHOOLS
This half-term children have been visited by PC Nick Wyer, the school nurses and will shortly be participating in a session in the Life Education Mobile. We are also in the middle of Health Week where children across the school are taking part in Healthy body, mind & planet activities. We have been looking at water consumption, composting in school, litter picking in and around school and taking part in a variety of challenges!
Many thanks to Borough of Poole Environmental Services and Lush for the prizes they have donated to the school.
END OF TERM
Don't forget, term ends on Tuesday 22 July at 1.30pm and finally—Have a great summer holiday and see you back on 3 September.
