 | School Staff Update
Raising standards in schools depends on the skills and commitment not just of teachers but the whole school team. 'Support staff' are all adults who are employed in schools to assist teachers. From September 2005 all teachers were given 10% of their teaching time for preparation and planning. This was a national agreement.
What this means for your child
- Qualified teachers will always be in charge of your child's education
- Other experienced support staff with specialist training, skills and knowledge will support the qualified teacher to provide the best education possible. This already happens in our school and does not represent a noticeable change.
- Amongst our very professional group of Teaching Assistants we have 3 Higher Level Teaching Assistants. The Governors of the school have decided that these HLTAs will act as 'cover tutors' for classes during the early stages of a teaching staff absence and to occasionally release teachers to perform their professional duties outside of the classroom.
- The work covered by the cover tutor will be set by, and progress made, monitored and assessed by the qualified teacher in charge.
This process is a positive development that will give an even greater focus to the needs of every child as we begin to see support from a wider range of skilled, trained and qualified staff working in schools.
