Residential Visit 2012

Our Year 5 children will have the opportunity to take part in a residential visit to Leeson House, near Swanage, Dorset in March 2012. I have booked for a group of 60 children from Monday 5th March to Wednesday 7th March (3 days and 2 nights.)

During those 3 days, we will be working on map and compass skills, orienteering competitions, team challenges, pond dipping, bird watching and mini beast hunting. On the first morning there will be a scenic walk across the Purbeck hills and a stop for a picnic lunch.

Dinner is included on the Monday and Tuesday evenings as is breakfast on the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and packed lunches will be provided on the Tuesday and Wednesday. We request that you provide your child with a packed lunch for the Monday as we will be going out on the walk on our arrival. If your child has free school meals their packed lunch will be booked for that day.

I have negotiated with both Leeson House and the coach company to keep this year’s cost at the same price as 2010, that being £95 per child.

We hope that we will be able to take all the children who wish to go, but there are only 60 places available and about 120 children in year 5 in total. For this reason, we would ask you to reply promptly to this letter. If you would like to put your child’s name forward for this trip, please return the slip attached in a sealed envelope marked ‘Leeson House’ with your child’s name and class together with a £10 deposit by the end of this term, Friday 16th December. A payment card will then be issued to your child as a receipt for money received. Full payment must be in to the office by Friday 3rd February, 2012. If you are in receipt of any of the benefits listed below, you may contact the school to discuss any support available:

• Income Support (IS)
• Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA)
• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Child Tax Credit, provided that Working Tax Credit is not also received and the family’s income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) does not exceed £15,575 (Financial Year 2008/9)
• The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
• An income related employment and support allowance that was introduced on 27 October 2008.

I have promised Miss Lewis (Year 4 leader) that the children who were on the waiting list last year for Springhead will be given priority this year. The other places will then be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. I hope you understand the reason for this.

When all of the deposits are in I will send out another letter with details of an information evening when myself and the team will be able to answer any questions you may have about the trip and to issue medical forms which will also have to be filled in and given to the office by Friday 3rd February.

May we remind all children that the highest standards of behaviour are expected at all times and failure to keep to these standards can result in a child being withdrawn from the visit.

As with all visits unless we can cover our costs we will have to review whether the trip goes ahead.
