Sickness in Schools

18th December 2019

We are aware that a number of parents are concerned regarding a sickness virus within school. We would like to reassure parents that we have reported the level of sickness absence to Public Health and Hamwic Education Trust (our academy partners). Both Public Health and the trust are happy with the precautions we are taking, including using a specialist norovirus cleaner each night at both schools, in the dining hall after lunch, on door handles, light switches and toilets, and encouraging children to maintain good personal hygiene in school.

At each school the absence due to sickness is not at a rate that would warrant closing either school (4% for infants and 5% at the junior school). Please do help us to stop the spread of this virus; if your child is sick or feeling unwell, please keep them off school for at least 48 hours from the last episode of sickness – this, along with our deep cleaning will help break the cycle of the virus.

We understand that having a sickness virus is not ideal at any time of year, especially during the run up to Christmas, and this can be frustrating for parents. If you have any concerns please contact the school to arrange to speak to a senior member of staff. Whilst under our social media policy we always encourage parents to comment or post appropriately about the Federation, we ask that any concerns be discussed with a member of school staff.
